Now watching Svinalängorna (Beyond) starring Noomi and Ola Rapace
I went to the World Premiere of Snow White and the Huntsman last night which was made possible by my friends…so before anything THANK YOU.

This version of Snow White appears and feels much more traditional and Brother’s Grimm than the disney adaptation. It’s dark, ‘Grim’, beautifully shot and some wonderful sets and cgi to match. The world in which this Snow White is living in is both deadly and beautiful, which is all thanks to the director Rupert Sanders. This is Sanders first film, period! and it’s unbelievable that this is the case.

The dark forest and the magical forest were my favourite locations to look at, very imaginative and completely contrast one another.
The cast was solid, best of the bunch was Charlize Theron as the evil queen. She wasn’t just the bitch, but someone who’s not only dripping in rage and vanity but also fear. I think the best villains are the ones the audience can slightly identify with (seeing as we all have things we hate about ourselves…well most of us)… fear of ageing being one of those in identifiers. This queen went from 2D to 3D.

Kristen Stewart puts her middle finger up at Bella Swan, ditches the vampire (finally) and embraces the new roles quite naturally. Although over shadowed by The Queen she does a swell job of being what Snow White is ‘the fairest of them all’.
Chris Hemsworth strips away the arrogance of Thor becoming a complicated widower who comes to protect Snow White, and his action scenes pay off, he’s much more interesting and watchable than the prince.
The Seven Dwarfs (i will not name the cast as there are seven of them) play up the comedy whilst contradicting one another.
The scene with a certain God-Like deer really reminds me of Princess Mononoke’s God of the Forest. I’m not sure if this is the directors nod to the ghibli animation or just something he wanted to recreate.
I say 4/5 stars!
